Who else was cuddled up on the couch this past Sunday night watching The Oscars? You better believe I was. In fact, I loved hearing how it’s become a yearly tradition for so many people over on my Instagram. But, the real reason I love watching is that we can pull some amazing wedding inspiration from The Oscars.
When I’m talking to my couples about their wedding day and design, I’m always bringing the conversation back to their legacy. When you’re 80, looking back on your wedding day, what do you want to see? What do you want to remember? By asking those questions, we get to the heart of the relationship and are able to build an event that is unequivocally them. If you read the interviews of the dress designers and stylists for celebrities at The Oscars, you’ll often hear them say how they wanted to create something that was a true reflection of who the person wearing their gown really is. They wanted to create something that would stand the test of time and look just as beautiful years from now. Pretty similar philosophies, right?
So, let’s see this mindset in action, shall we?

First up, one of my favorites was Saoirse Ronan. Her dress was stunning in its simplicity, but still carried a few fun and flirty details! The blush pink color and iconic bow brought me back to all my girly childhood dreams. However, the sleek modern style was very grown up – a perfect balance for the 23-year-old actress!

I couldn’t get over the gorgeousness of Lupita Nyong’o’s custom-made gold gown. This pretty number was fierce but refined. The slit up the leg was sexy, while the detailed bodice made her look like a warrior princess. Considering her recent role in Black Panther, I think Versace hit the nail on the head with this look!

When you read what Margot Robbie’s stylist, Kate Young, had to say about what they were looking for in an Oscars dress, it’s pretty clear that they found the perfect one. She was quoted saying, “I wanted it to be couture, the most fancy and luxurious, but also cool.” The look was classy and sophisticated, but also very fun and modern.
I love learning all about how the stars stylists and designers work to develop looks that compliment exactly who their client is. Similarly, your wedding design should compliment your love story… and look good doing it 😉
So, here’s to creating meaningful, timeless, and beautiful details to simply enhance you’re already amazing love story… with a little wedding inspiration from The Oscars!
